| Hi, I am new to the "Clay" scene any suggestions anyone has I will be most appreciative. I am having trouble making a black and white checkerboard square I suppose you would call it a cane. My colors smear when I try to cut it and I am having trouble getting everything straight. |

Hi Connie,
Did you let the cane sit for awhile after you made it? It might be smearing because it's too fresh and the pattern hasn't "settled" yet. I also have trouble when I try to use pure white clay for anything, I've found the best white clay to use is Kato, it doesn't seem to pick up every little piece of lint as badly as the other brands, not sure why, something to do with the amount of plasticizer in Kato clay maybe. Also, if your pattern is smearing when you cut it, make sure you are using a VERY sharp blade.
Good luck!

Hi there: when you cut the cane with a very sharp blade make sure you use a back and forth "sawing" type motion. If you just push the blade through, smears will happen,
Hope that helps |
