I like to cover glass with my clay mixtures, but I have some wood pieces I would like to do and I always seem to get bubbles between the clay and the wood. I have tried cooking the wood first, then coating it with white glue and the problem persists. Is there anything else I can do to correct this? Any help you can give me would be wonderful. Thanx

Hi Sam!
I can't help you to much but I also belong to yahoo groups and I remember seeing something about working with wood and covering it in clay the group is called clay-polymer and you might be able to find out some more info there just go to www.yahoo.com and then click on groups and go to the one I suggested. I hope you find your answer there.

Sam,
look at the side from NoraJean biz. She had a tutorial for what you want to do.

I have made a few projects where I used clay on wood, with good results.
Give the wood a lite sanding, and make sure its clean. Then I "paint" the wood with a light coating of TLS ( liquid sculpey). Once you have done that, go ahead and apply the clay, and bake according to directions.
Hope that helps. |

I have been unable to cover wood with clay without having a severe "bubble" problem after baking. I tried tls on the wood first but didn't bake it before applying the clay, and I'm wondering if this would solve the prob? I read through the posts and couldn't find the reference or article by "Norajean". Please help!!

Hi there,
I found some info on covering wood with clay at glassattic.com. Look under "C" for covering, then select Wood.
Hope this helps!

TY!! JennRuth for the help. I located some other sources but it appears that the inherent humidity of the wood plays a huge factor in the bubbling. I'm going to try some "weldbond" glue as a wood sealer first. I'll let ya know how it works. TY again fpr the reply.

Would the same TLS work on cardboard as well? The reason I ask is I have found that I have the same problems with cardboard pre-made pieces as pre-made wood pieces. I know I will defiantely try the TLS on my wood pieces.
