Hi everybody,
I am interested in making and selling polymer clay jewelry and I'm not sure where to start. Any feedback that the rest of you can give me would be great!
1. What's the best way to get started? Are any of you having luck with craft shows?
2. Do you think a website is a good idea for selling?
3. How do I price my work?
4. Has anyone had any luck with consignment shops?
Thanks to any and all who can give me advice!

Hey JennRuth,
Well, I wish I had an answer for your question but unfortunately I don't. I'm actually wanting to do the same thing and I'm not really sure how to do it. I was thinking about opening a Yahoo store or just putting my stuff on Ebay but I don't know much about any of this online sales stuff. I've looked at some of the companies out there that build online stores but they are SOOOO expensive.
This seems like it would be a great tutorial for TheClayStore to have. A tutorial that shows the basics of selling polymer clay projects online. How about it TCS? Any hopes of getting a "business" tutorial on the site soon? |

Well... I saw a lady at a local art show. FANCY expencive art show too! And she was doing great selling fimo stuff. She had a LOT of stuff to offer though. So I got inspired again.
As for sites, well.. FORGET about ebay. Crafts of any kind just die there. Go hit buy and look. Lots of stuff, but NO bids! Good place to find supplies sometimes though.
I just found a site though, ALL they sell is hand made stuff. They are only a few years old though so don't expect to get rich. But hey, price is right. I signed up. We'll see how this goes.
Here is my store, http://artmakersworlds.etsy.com Or just go to their main page, http://etsy.com The store is free, it's only 20cents per item listed, and UNlike ebay, your item stays listed for months! Then they charge a small percentage of any sales. I figure for a few bucks, I can try this. been busy trying to make stuff now. Learning new techniques too. (always learning.) |
