Hi, I've been doing clay for awhile, and I would really like to get a website and try to sell my stuff. I'm just not sure where to start, any ideas?

I would recommend starting with ebay.
I have had great success selling beads on this auction site.
I has lead people to buy from my web site as well.

What are you making that you would like to sell?
I have been watching what sells on ebay and what normally doesn't.
Things that sell well are, beads, canes, clay, tiny babies, and some small figurines.

hmmm.... I have thought about Ebay, I didn't realize that you could link your auctions to a website. How does that work?

You can put HTML links on your About Me page that will take you to your personal site or any other site you like.

We also include a business card with every purchase.

The link to our site has been effective for bead sales.

We recently included a link to our auctions from our personal website.
We often list items on ebay that are not currently available on our website.

Ebay was a challenge at first and honestly we did lose money, although now that we have been through the mistakes we are doing very well and are happy with it.

I think Blogger works pretty well. You can't sell anything from there but it's very easy to create a simple web page that you can update very quickly.

Here's the link:

ebay might work for "supplies." I see "huge lots of beads" go there all the time. But for hand made crafts? Well... DISMAL! Go to ebay, click buy, and look! Lots of stuff, but very few bids!

I litterally stumbled onto a good site though. ALL they sell is hand made stuff. NOTHING ELSE. They are only a few years old so not a lot of people know about it. BUT
Your store is FREE. Listings only cost 20 cents and stay up for MONTHS! (ebay you get one week.) They charge a small percentage of your sale so mark it up accordingly.

Free is good. I signed up. Lets get more clay people there!

Good luck! Very Happy

Say Townsend Atelier,

Not to get off topic here, well I guess I am...
but.. I looked at your kneadamold site.

I got a set of molds once to make plaster statues with. They are rubber, you set in a cardboard frame, which fits into a glass. (The mold is flexible.) Then pour your plaster in that.

I'd like to know where to get the mold making supply to do that myself. Great for small statues, chess pieces etc. Not a flat mold. Has to be flexible enough to allow for undercuts.

I looked in your site but all I can see are jars. Do you have this?

Thanks.

I just found a website, www.blujay.com
I have a couple things listed, just to try, but it is 100% free. And you can leave your ads up as long as you like. I'm sure it's not hugely popular like ebay, but if you are just starting.. free is always good! Smile
