| can you leave something in the oven w/o burning? Or is it that just as long as it isn't above a certain temp? |

Hi Brookies! Polymer clay can be baked beyond the 20 minutes per 1/4" thickness rule, as long as the baking temperature is not exceeded. The longest I have baked pieces is three consecutive hours. I don't know if there is a maximum baking time for polymer clay, though. I have made a few items that had a total baking time of 6 or more hours, but that baking time was broken up into 20 to 60 minute increments.
The oven's cycling to maintain the set temperature might cause scorching, especially in small toaster ovens where the polymer clay piece is inches from the heating element. It is important not to open the oven too often to check your work, whether using a toaster oven or conventional oven, because if the temperature drops low enough with the oven door being opened frequently, your piece may become scorched as the oven cycles on to maintain the set temperature. |
