Anyone try any of these?
Seen at http://www.camilleallen.com
Grossly overpriced IMHO, saw one go for over $1000. on Ebay.
I wouldn't doubt if the seller's family and friends were inflating the bidding.
They can't be THAT difficult. |

Actually creating something that small with that amount of detail can be quite challenging. I don't create babies, but I have just started creating fantasy dolls on a small scale and find them quite a challenge. It's not easy putting the same amount of detail into a tiny piece as it is into a larger piece. You have to have a very steady hand and good eye. They can be quite difficult to create.
As for the high price. Some of the dolls on ebay recieve extraordinary sums. Doll collectors know what they want and there are some who are willing to pay large sums if they really want something. Get two or more who really want the doll and the bidding war can cause the price to go way up. It doesn't necessarily mean that the artist has someone inflating the bids, it just means that their work is in high demand.
A bidding war is something all of us doll artists hope for. |

| I have to agree with Poeterri. I looked at the link to the web-site and I am in complete awe. I can only hope be that great of a sculpter some day. At this point I know that kind of detail is possible with practice, but it's just incredible. I can understand why they would go high up in price on e-bay. Poeterri is also correct about e-bay. When I sell my fiber glass costume pieces on e-bay I'm hoping that there will a price war and those pieces are much larger. I love watching the few minutes before an auction ends. |
