Hey everyone.. I was sitting in my living room last night, just looking at some of the stuff I have made and a good question hit me.. lol. I am obsessed with covering glass bottles with clay! But......... I have this problem almost everytime with the glass cracking after I bake them. I am not sure what the problem is and I have tried everything I can think of to correct it. I don't know, I am at a loss. If anyone else has had this problem, and has any ideas I would appreciate it greatly if you could give me some hints! Thanks a lot!

I got this info at http://www.glassattic.com/polymer/covering.htm
It says if you are covering an object not made of clay, you are supposed to put the object in a cold oven and then turn it on so it heats in the oven. Leave at the correct temp for the right amount of time and then turn off the oven and let the object cool before taking it out of the oven. This should help avoid cracking.
It also says that if you are using translucent clay you should not dump the object in ice water because that will cause cracking.
I hope this helps some. If you haven't ever checked out www.glassattic.com, it is a great site filled with tons and tons of info. |
